Every team needs a coach, and you can’t coach unless you have a team! Our Lakers teams are incredibly lucky to be coached by an incredibly passionate, selfless group of volunteers. Whether they’re parents, carers or older siblings – our teams would’t be on the court without the volunteer time of these individuals every season.
Hopefully, you’re reading this because you’re interested in helping out too. It’s important to realise our coaches all come to the game with different levels of experience, some of them have been coaching or playing for years, but for others this will be their first time (and for some, it will be their first basketball season too). Anyone can coach, but we don’t expect you to do it on your own.
MLBC Lakers is committed to helping our volunteer coaches with resources, training, equipment and coaching of their own. If you’re new to this we will absolutely help you get up and running.
We have a few expectations of our coaches:
- They have a current working with children’s check
- They can attend and run weekly training
- They can attend weekly games, and bring the team balls
- They will treat players, officials and other teams with kindness and respect at all times
Each team will also have a Team Manager who will be your teammate in running the team. They will take care of most of the admin around the team and let you concentrate on the team and game itself.
If you would like to volunteer to coach a team, or have some questions before you do that, please contact the appropriate co-ordinator, or just let us know when registering your child.
